All roads lead to....baseball?
Okay, I have to admit it...I am addicted to baseball. Specifically the Kansas City Royals, but I find myself reading all of the stats, every article...for every team! It's sad really, because I don't remember all of the stats, but I do know this... This is the first season in several years that the Royals aren't DEAD LAST amongst all baseball teams. (Insert your own "WHOOO HOOO" here)
I'm also addicted to watching my Son, Jared's baseball team. They're coming along nicely this year, and although they had more losses than wins, several of the kids have "gotten it together" pretty well on the field.
We recently went to the Willie Wilson (Former Royal) Baseball Classic here in Kansas City and had the chance to see Willie (and meet and get his autograph), and got to see Ozzie Smith, Frank White, Amos Otis, Joe Carter and many, many more who, even in retirement, can still move the ball around pretty good. (As if to prove this point, Joe Carter smacked a ball out of the park and right onto the roof of our van... We have the huge dent to prove it!)
So I'm thinking of entering a twelve step program so that I can rid myself of this Demon...baseball! Or maybe I'll just get hooked on the NBA...

How I spent my summer vacation
Today I survived Scout Camp. I am Proud...I earned beads.
I'm not sure why I did it, but I again volunteered for another round of Scout Day Camp. This makes my fifth year at day camp and doesn't even include time spent at Boy Scout camp or Webelos camp.
Maybe I enjoy it, or maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, but somehow I soldier on and keep volunteering year after year.
Actually I enjoy it a lot, but sometimes I have to question the sanity of marching up and down a monster hill in 90 degree heat or even rain. I guess I did what a lot of people do on vacation... I lost weight, I got a tan and I spent time out of doors. (and all it cost me was vacation time!) Other than that, I saved a ton of money!
The kids were pretty good for the most part, with the exception of a few "Breakfast Club" personality clashes, and getting cranky from the heat.
This year went better than most of the other year's that I've been, due in no small part to my co-leader Vic, who was there with me every day. Most years I've had a different parent there every day, which means I'm constantly having to explain and train over and over again.
The weather was good this year, save for two sticky days. On the third day it was in the 70's and very, very nice and then it gradually warmed up from there, but never got miserable like it has in the past.
Other than a barfing incident on the hottest day (day one of course) and a small puncture wound thanks to a fall on day two...(same kid, go figure!), we stayed fairly pain free! No one even hooked themselves (or ME!) during fishing, and there were no burned pinkies during cooking class! (AMAZING!) My broken-down knees even held up during hiking...(which turned out safe in spite of reports of rabid groundhogs!)
My lovely Wife, Sherry and Son Dustin helped out a bit during the week, and some of the other parents showed up here and there to assist a bit too. One of the Dad's even donated buckets for the kids to store their projects in... so that was mucho helpful as well.
One tick was found (in my Son's hair...of course) and no one got sunburned or chigger infested for the entire week! God was watching out for us!!! In spite of a couple of crabby campers, I think it was a very successful week... and don't tell anyone, but if my kid wants to go back next year, I might even sign up again...
(A sure sign that I'm losing my mind....)

The most dramatic rubber bone ceremony ever
In last week's episode we continued to follow Luke's dilemma of whom he should choose for a mate. Vying for his affections were Miss Daphne, a lovely young Sheltie who is a distant relative, and Miss Lucy, a beautiful red-head who is a recent addition to the neighborhood.
After a romantic evening alone with Dapne, the odds are that he's leaning her direction, however, he has confessed to liking "bigger dogs" in his past. Only time will tell which of these beauties he will choose.

You turned me right round baby right round
Okay, so this week at work has been the absolute worst! They've reorganized our department until my nice, normal-sized cubicle was cut into half!!! Half my desk is gone! Half of my cubicle walls are gone! 80% of my storage space is gone! All of my privacy is_________ GONE!
It's really worse in reality. You really have to see it to appreciate the magnitude of this reorganization!!! Before I had privacy and space and didn't sit between two hallways next to two elevators and two bathrooms! Now all day long I get a constant flow of traffic through my workspace and the sounds of elevators dinging, doors opening and shutting and toilets flushing!
I suppose my bosses would like me to maintain my previous level of productivity...but I can tell you this... I am so stressed out at the moment that I promise you...productivity is gonna fall...big time! No, this isn't a threat...it's a prediction. How anyone could have looked at that layout on paper and said "YUP, that'll work!" Is beyond me. STEVIE WONDER COULD HAVE SEEN THAT THIS WOULDN'T WORK!!!
