Today I'm writing a book review!

Today I'd like to tell you all about the great Children's book that I just read to my Youngest Son, Jared. The book is entitled "Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich" by Adam Rex. (www.adamrex.com)
I'd have to say that this book immediately joined our list of favorites which include:
"Piggie Pie" by Margie Palatini and Howard Fine (www.margiepalatini.com)
"Zoom Broom" (The sequel to "Piggie Pie")
"Broommates" (The sequel to the sequel)
"Saving Sweetness" by Diane Stanley and G. Brian Karas (www.dianestanley.com)
"Jake Johnson: the story of a Mule" by Tres Seymour and Marsha Gray Carrington
If you want a story that appeals to both children and their parents, look no further! It has several popular Monsters in addition to "Franky" including Dracula (who has spinach in his teeth), The Phantom of the Opera (who can't seem to get an annoying Disney tune out of his noggin), and other assorted ghouls and goblins doing the most ridiculous things.
I had a blast reading this one aloud, as I watched Jared roll on his bed convulsing with laughter. He was laughing so hard, in fact, that Dustin (our 12 year old) walked in wanting to know what was so funny. So, being the Dad that I am...I started the whole thing all over again.
By the time we were done we were all laughing at this silly tale. One of the many things that makes the book so enjoyable are the great drawings and the funny pop-culture references that Moms and Dads will get, but the kids won't. (Which may lead to some explanations following storytime...such as "Who is the girl from Ipanema?")
Even if you don't like kids books...read it anyway! If you want a grin or a laugh it's not a huge time investment to read this nice, funny book!

Pictures taken near the Central Branch of the KC Public Library

I'm not sure why, but I really like this picture.
This is where I live...
This is a picture of my dog, Luke Skywalker Cox.
(He's pictured here as part of an equal time law that says I must post a picture of my dog if I'm posting any other dog pictures... so, just humor me, okay???)

Can you say "Dog?" (see, here's the other dog!)
Here I am, peeking in a window!!!
Signs on buildings...(This is really artistic!)
Downtown KC on a sunny cold day...
This just in...

This is a view of the "Bookshelf" parking Garage across from the Kansas City Public Library. I have no idea who these people are. (They might be Terrorists!)
This is a view from the roof of the Kansas City Club which is also across from the Library.
"Oh a Library Delivery Man is a person in your neighborhood, in your neighborhood, he's in your neighborhood...."
Thank Goodness it was a slow traffic day!
This is my life...these are my people...I am Dave!

State of the Union

Okay, I'll admit it....I'm a Republican! I used to be a Conservative but then Bill Clinton arrived on the scene. Clinton wasn't a bad President...I just didn't agree with him on several issues... just as I don't agree with President Bush on several issues.

I tend to vote split-ticket, although there have been a couple of straight ticket moments...(guess which ticket I went for???)

My biggest problem is the hypocrisy that I'm hearing from both sides of the aisle. Especially when they call Bush a war criminal for going into Iraq. Does that make Harry Truman a war criminal? How about Bill Clinton...(who as I recall also invaded a country, although on a much smaller scale).

Which brings us to another point. Bush was supposed to be too inexperienced to be President, even though he'd been Governor of one of our largest states... Then came John Edwards, who had barely been in office long enough to answer his phone...but he was okay to nominate as VP??? Oh, and Obama...how long has he been in office? Hillary said the other day that Obama was distinguished and had a phenomenal (her words exactly) record in public office.
PHENOMENAL??? Up until the last election, no one other than people in Illinois even knew who he was???

Double standards seem to be overlooked within each party, but the opposition never fails to point out the other party's faults!!! Bush has spent more money on social programs than any other President...EVER which I don't much care for and the Democrats seem to hound him about constantly...HOWEVER, if this had been a Democratic President (Heaven forbid it had been Bill Clinton) He would have been a God among men and would have been the best President of all time.

Today I was happy to hear a couple of my Democrat friends...(YES, I HAVE MANY), who were outside looking up to the skies proclaiming that it would be neat to see the President's plane fly over (since he's in town). I agree... but if you can respect the position of the President's plane, why can you respect the office of the President even if you don't like it's occupant???

Hmmm.....

Tigger beat up my honor roll student

I didn't realize at the time that the Disney World Tigger was dangerous...
Recent news reports suggest that Tigger beat up a kid at Disney World... however, upon viewing the tape at youtube it appears to me that the kid didn't really get "whacked" all that hard.
It looks like playful Tigger was a bit too playful and might have accidentally bumped the kid a bit.
Of course what it really looks like is a way for crappy parents to sue for some cash or free tickets!

People I wouldn't invite to a party

The following people would never be invited to a party at my house:
(Because I'm really sick and tired of them)

1. Hitler---(don't you think he'd ruin the mood?)
2. Paris Hilton---(unless I was having a "Girl's gone wild theme party" which is VERY unlikely)
3. Rosie O'Donnell---(every day in every way I like her less)
4. K-Fed and Britney---(do I really need to list a reason? C'mon! It's so obvious!)
5. Gilbert Gottfried---(I don't want anyone there who is louder than the music)
6. Mel Gibson---(I don't serve alcohol at parties)
7. Donald Rumsfeld---(He got bombed at my last party)
8. Donald Trump---(If I'm having a dip at my party, I'd like it to be ranch)
9. Lindsey Lohan---(Who used to be cute and talented...Get a Grip on yourself Woman!)
and finally...
10.Tom Cruise---(Cause he won't stay off the furniture)

Best place to do away with someone in KCMO

Not to be morbid or anything...more "Hitchcockian" I would say....but if you ever decided to "do away" with someone, I can't think of a more spectacular place to do it than the Liberty Memorial in Kansas City.
Looming above the KC Skyline, the memorial offers a breathtaking (or as the case may be, "life-taking" view of the city.)
Seems like the perfect place to dangle a hapless victim before sending them to certain doom. (or as my Grandmother would say "to meet their maker.")
So you see, Kansas City has possibilities after all.
